The Dentists in Lawrence can help you get dental crowns for your teeth for a number of cosmetic and restorative purposes. Common reasons a dental crown may be necessary:
Restoring a fractured tooth
Protecting a weak tooth from fracturing
Replacing a large filling that is failing
Covering a dental implant
Protecting a tooth after root canal treatment
Cosmetic reasons such as discolored or poorly-shaped teeth
The Process of Creating Your Crown
Once the need for a crown has been identified by our doctors, a small amount of your tooth structure is removed to make space for the new crown to fit over your tooth in a secure but comfortable manner.
Build-ups may also be necessary which involves using material to create a foundation for your crown. We use our E4D machine to scan and create your crown in our office and can usually be done the same day.
If you are missing a tooth, the large gap that's left behind can create other significant problems for your dental health if it's not corrected. In a lot of cases, bridges are commonly used in this situation to “bridge the gap”.
Once our team has determined a bridge is the proper treatment option for your missing tooth, the surrounding teeth are prepared for crowns. Prosthetic teeth, also known as pontics, are then fused in between the crowns. In some situations, we are able to complete a bridge in one appointment, however, it can take additional time for the bridge to be fabricated at the dental lab. Dental bridges are great for creating a natural-looking restoration, not to mention helping to restore your normal bite and alleviate any discomfort.
